Rachel's Comments:

I would be very interested in reading this study to see exactly what the cause of the rising temperature would be if we instituted a zero emissions policy. I have a lot of questions regarding this particular article which would regard further reading, such as what the further temperature increase would be due to. Would it be because of remaining gases already in the atmosphere produced by industry in the past, for example? Or perhaps due to the natural temperature fluctuations of the earth, which I've often seen being used as one of the main arguments against the reality of global warming.

Either way, it is extremely concerning about the disastrous effects of the rising temperatures, especially in Africa where "The continued heat... will create food shortages". I fear that although Prof. Shawn Marshall from the University Calgary "hopes people will take away from the study that serious efforts to cut greenhouse gases need to be made now to mitigate the damage", the study will just add to the defeatist attitude of citizens. This seems to often result in generally ignoring the situation in the average person's everyday life, choosing apathy of these abstract issues when more pressing personal interests are at stake.
